First off, I am not the best or fastest reader I know. I have struggled with this since I was a little girl. I was in classes when I was in elementary and middle school. I never got the proper help that I deserved, but I have not let that stop me from doing something I enjoy.

Lately, I have been on a reading kick and I love it. I think if instead of watching tv or wasting my day staring at my phone, that I should be reading a book. I currently own over about 200 books in a range of all genres. Ideally, I would be creating a library for my future children and hopefully grandchildren. They can help themselves to any book, if it is for school work or for pleasure, and they can find knowledge in non-fiction books or get lost in fiction novels or adventure books. I believe though, if they get to read them, that I should read them too so I can talk to them about it and answer questions as best as I could.

So with that being said, I figure what better way than to put my knowledge of the books I've read and start the "Book Report" files. As I read books, I will talk about them, and if you are interested, maybe I can help give you a suggested book for you to read and expanded your library. Shall we begin?!

Let's talk about Breakfast at the Honey Creek Cafè by Jodi Thomas.

Here is a book description off of Amazon:

"Piper Jane Mackenzie, mayor of Honey Creek, won’t let a major scandal rip her quirky hometown apart, or jeopardize her dream of one day running for higher office. So she’s willing to welcome undercover detective Colby McBride, hired to help solve the mystery behind her wannabe fiancé’s disappearance. Colby’s cover? That he is an old boyfriend now begging Piper for a second chance—always when there are plenty of townsfolk around to witness his shenanigans.

Piper hardly knows whether to laugh or cry, especially when she finds herself drawn to the handsome rascal. He's not the only newcomer she has to deal with. There’s a new interim preacher in town, Sam Cassidy. Drifting from one assignment to another since his one love died, Sam isn’t sure he’s the right fit for Honey Creek. But as Piper knows, this is a place chock-full of surprises. And if she can keep her town—and her heart—from going completely off the rails, there may be a sweet, unexpected future in store . . ."

I think this description is pretty accurate. Piper Jane Mackenzie is the main character. She is everyone's favorite. She knows everyone in their tiny town by name. They all have the mayor's back. The town will make sure no harm comes to her. It's very sweet and heart-felt.

One thing that I love about this book is that each chapter is from a different character's perspective. Most of my favorite books are like that. You really get to see each of their personalities come through in the book. This book has four different character's perspective and see what they are all going through.

Character one: Piper Jane Mackenzie. Everyone calls her Piper or Mayor, except for Colby McBride, who calls her PJ, which she can't stand. Like you read in the description, Piper is the Mayor of Honey Creek. A very small town in Texas. When anyone asks where it is, their motto is "Where the heart of Texas is." I love that. So sweet and true to their town, which you learn through different town events.

Piper is finding herself in the middle of a scandal. We learn about Boone Buchanan who is her wealthy, lawyer "finance" and he goes missing. Why? You might ask. Is Piper involved? Is she in danger? You will just have to find out when you read the book.

Character two: Colby McBride. Piper calls him Cowboy. Some might call him Trooper. Colby calls himself a "helpless romantic" trying to get a second chance with the one "that got away." Colby McBride is a Trooper for Texas. He was recruited by Piper's two older brothers, who are Texas Rangers, to go to Honey Creek to protect Piper and to figure out what happened to Boone Buchanan and where he disappeared to. While playing this act of the love sick cowboy trying to win the heart of the mayor, he realizes there is more to her than meets the eye and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for her.

Character three: Sam Cassidy. He is a preacher's kid who went to seminary to then go into the army to then become a fire fighter to then see if he can fulfill he's former dream of being a preacher once he's parents and love of his life pass away. Sam finds himself to fall in love with Honey Creek, but also the people in the town, one woman specifically, Anna Presley. We watch Sam realize he isn't meant to be a preacher, but he loves helping anyone who is in need while trying to figure out who he really is and what his calling in life is.

Character four: Pecos. I adore Pecos. He just graduated high school and has to decide if he stays and starts to work on his family's farm or if he leaves, like his four older brothers, to go and follow his dreams. You see a young man, full of potential, help other's who are important to him while creating a life he always dreamt of having. He does what he feels is right and realizes he has made the right decisions, even if they are hard to do.

Throughout the book, we see these four characters interact with each other while growing in their own journey. This book, especially the middle to the end, is a nail biter. I didn't want to stop reading. There were plot twists and parts were you read it again because you weren't sure you read it correctly the first time because you didn't see that part coming.

I think the only reason, well two reasons, that I can't give this book a 10/10 is because there were a few grammar errors. Don't come at me! I know, there are grammar errors in this article, I'm sure, as well as other ones that I have written. I was surprised with how many I had found. They were mainly quotation errors that you had to reread a few times to figure out what was being said and what wasn't. Another reason is things changed so quickly. Like I said, there were parts that I read and had to read again because I didn't believe it had happened.

I do recommend this book. There is another book about Honey Creek coming out in Spring of 2021 and you better believe that I will be reading it. If you have any questions, let me know!

Here is the link to Amazon where I got the description and you can buy this book. I actually bought my copy at Walmart because I liked the house on the cover and knew I would probably like this book too. https://www.amazon.com/Breakfast-Honey-Creek-Caf%C3%A9-Novel/dp/1420151282
